BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Meijer received preliminary approval from Walker to amend its site plan at its Standale store. One outlot will house a Chipotle while parking lot demolition and construction are set to begin mid-March. MLive
- ➤ Asada, a local Tex-Mex restaurant known for its tacos, barbecue and smash burgers in Eastown, will close on Sunday, Jan. 25 due to falling sales, with owner Steven Martinez saying the business is no longer sustainable. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This summer, thousands will gather at the Barry Expo Center (5 mi outside Hastings) for Rock the Country, celebrating 250 years of freedom. Michigan native Kid Rock headlines on Aug. 8 with Jason Aldean set to perform Aug. 9, and tickets begin at $90. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grand Rapids Public Schools will hold community meetings to gather input on the futures of Alexander and Stocking elementary schools. Two sessions (12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Jan. 15) are set at the Reverend Lyman S Park Administration Building while two sessions (noon and 6 p.m. on Jan. 16) are planned at the Stocking gym. FOX 17
- ➤ The Weller Auto Tech Center at Grandville High School opened earlier this year, giving students hands-on training by working with vehicles to learn repairs and problem-solving while preparing for ASC certifications. Instructors say the program connects students to skills that will help them succeed in future careers. FOX 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ada Township began construction on a $2.5M pedestrian bridge over the Thornapple River that will connect downtown Ada and the Grand River Greenway trail network. The 170-foot span on the north side of Thornapple River Drive is expected to finish by summer to boost pedestrian safety. MLive
- ➤ Ottawa County officials released free small home designs on Jan. 8 to address the affordable housing shortage. The plans come in four sizes (440 to 1,056 sqft) and are aimed at convincing local governments to ease zoning rules. MLive

- ➤ Eighteen custom single-family homes will be built in Walker following city approvals last month; construction by Jenison-based Brent DeYoung Builders will begin in late January as part of the new Pheasant Preserve development at 1853 Pheasant Ave NW. MLive
