  • Grand Rapids plow drivers are working overtime to clear 600 miles of streets, but parked cars — obstruct the routes as non-compliance with odd-even rules slows progress. City officials urge drivers to follow parking guidelines while crews continue snow removal through the weekend.  FOX 17
  • Pam Westers, founder of Beautiful You by Profile which offers free salon services to women undergoing cancer treatment, was named FOX 17 and Lake Michigan Credit Union Pay it Forward Person of the Year at an annual gala and will receive a $5,000 prize.  FOX 17

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bojangles will open Michigan’s first location on Tuesday, Feb. 3 in Wyoming at the former Main St. Pub (1730 28th Street), serving its famous breakfast biscuit sandwiches and fried chicken from 5:30 a.m.  ABC 13
  • Southwest Airlines will end its open seating policy (in place since 1971) on Jan. 27, replacing it with assigned seating and new rules for larger passengers following a recent update to its baggage fees.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montcalm County Road Commission warns that spring will bring one of the worst pothole seasons in years for West Michigan roads due to a harsh winter thaw & freeze cycle. Repairs are set to begin around April as temperatures warm.  FOX 17
  • Residents in Ada Township plan to voice concerns at Monday’s 7 p.m. meeting about dangerous road conditions on 3 Mile Road as years of neglect, potholes, and washouts have raised safety concerns. The meeting may advance talks over petitioning to change the road’s natural beauty designation before paving is considered.  FOX 17
  • Dangerously cold temperatures are expected this weekend, and Grand Rapids officials are opening emergency warming shelters (call 211 for locations) while offering free home safety assessments at city service centers. Residents are advised to protect homes, pets, and themselves by keeping thermostats at 55°F or higher and using heaters safely.  MLive
