- ➤ A longtime (25-year) family-owned restaurant in Cascade is preparing to reopen after a grease fire on Jan. 9 forced its closure; new custom equipment is expected in four to six weeks while staff support patrons through alternative locations. FOX 17
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Grand Rapids home, the first Phius ZERO certified in Kent County, will soon be on sale for $1.6 million, using rooftop solar panels + batteries and smart tech to cut energy use to one third of normal while reducing carbon emissions by 14 tons a year. FOX 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ In January, public works staff managed 24-hour shifts for 22 days using 3,800 tons of salt and 115 overtime hours to keep roads safe amid record snowfall and biting cold (including 30+ inches in 12 days and eight days below 16°F). MLive
- ➤ The Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority is assessing the former Butterworth Landfill for a 500-to-800-space parking lot to serve downtown service industry workers as events at the new Acrisure Amphitheater and Amway Stadium strain existing options.
