COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Terri DeBoer, a long-time meteorologist, retired from Fox-17 on Wednesday, Feb. 18 after returning to full-time broadcasting less than two years ago. She now looks ahead to a new chapter after a 34-year career in local weather (including 28 years at Wood-TV 8). MLive
- ➤ Demolition of the old Michigan Veteran Home by the riverfront began on Wednesday. Officials hope to transform the site into green space, though they have not finalized plans yet. ABC 13
- ➤ The 47th West Michigan Home and Garden Show will run from Feb. 26 to March 1 at DeVos Place with indoor gardens, vendor booths and seminars on home and garden projects. Family Day on Saturday offers free admission for kids until noon (featuring garden activities) to welcome spring. ABC 13
- ➤ Since December, residents at Tallmadge Meadows near Allendale have lacked running water, forcing families to use alternative facilities while TIR Equities works with state officials (including the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy) to finalize repairs. The park offers bottled water and reimbursement for water costs. FOX 17

- ➤ Tickets for the inaugural Pickle Palooza Food & Drink Fest sold out in three hours this morning, and organizers are making a 2027 priority list for those who missed out at LMCU Ballpark ahead of the event on May 2. MLive

- ➤ The GRPS Board of Education appointed Erika VanDyke on Wednesday to fill the trustee vacancy after Arick Davis resigned. She will serve until Dec. 31 and will be sworn in on Feb. 23. MLive

- ➤ State environmental officials in Cascade Township announced on Thursday they will expand PFAS testing to 120 homes after finding PFOA and PFOS above state standards in private wells — residents with high levels will be offered free filters. FOX 17

- ➤ Kent County workers are filling potholes while drivers face hard-to-win car repair claims because strict government immunity laws cause almost all claims to be denied. Officials urge drivers to report dangerous potholes immediately - 30-day notice is needed for a valid claim. FOX 17

- ➤ Jenison-based Koetje Builders is developing 47 buildable lots at 3637 Shaffer Ave. SE in Kentwood; site work begins this summer on 22-acres of wooded property for future single-family homes (phase 2 of the North Ravines development) with additional phases planned after 2028. MLive
