  • The Better Business Bureau warns homeowners that unlicensed contractors for spring remodeling could lead to code violations, faulty work, or liability issues — the BBB will guide consumers in a mini workshop series in March to learn how to verify licensing online.  FOX 17
  • Bernice Garmon will turn 101 on Feb. 26, with her active routine at the United Methodist Community House (which includes chair yoga and senior programs) drawing local admiration. Her family has planned a surprise celebration for her milestone birthday.  FOX 17
  • TwoGuys Brewing in Wyoming is partnering with H.O.P.E. Gardens (with middle school students) to serve over 100 free community meals featuring chicken burritos, salsa, and drinks. The collaboration (building key food skills) supports neighbors facing food insecurity today.  FOX 17

  • Kristin Hannah, a bestselling historical fiction author, will speak at the Kent District Library's free On the Same Page event on Tuesday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Godwin Heights High School Auditorium (50 35th Street SW in Wyoming) and will be joined by author Megan Chance.  ABC 13
  • Grand Rapids' Acrisure Amphitheater, opening this May at 201 Market Ave SW, will host country star Jelly Roll with special guest Kashus Culpepper on June 13. Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27.  MLive
  • Broadway Grand Rapids announced its 2026–27 season lineup — offering five core productions with additional options for subscribers. Opening on Sept. 15–20 at DeVos Performance Hall — Hell’s Kitchen starts the run, and The Notebook plays from Oct. 13–18 with shows continuing through Aug. 22.  MLive

  • AAA reports gas prices have dropped across Michigan to an average of $2.85 per gallon, with Grand Rapids recording rates around $2.75. Experts warn that if gasoline supply continues to fall and demand increases, prices could reverse course soon.  ABC 13

  • Chandler Woods Charter Academy in Belmont surprised Teacher of the Week Stephanie Oostdyk with a fake tornado drill (including a bull horn) today to celebrate her 13 years of inspiring hands-on science learning.  ABC 13

  • Kent County’s Agricultural Preservation Board is accepting applications for its Purchase of Development Rights program through Friday, May 8 to help farmers protect land and keep rural charm (farmland has declined significantly since 2002).  FOX 17
  • Travelers at GRR are advised to arrive early as TSA screenings operate on a case-by-case basis during a partial government shutdown and a major storm has delayed flights to the East Coast.
