ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum closed temporarily after a small fire broke out around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday — museum staff and the Grand Rapids Fire Department quickly controlled the blaze with no injuries.  FOX 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grand Rapids will host the Breakaway music festival at Belknap Park from Aug. 15-16, and the event will feature top DJs such as Zedd, Rezz, Gryffin and ISOxo along with 20 others—hosted by Bobby Hendrickson in partnership with MiEntertainment Group and Celsius Energy.  MLive

  • During National Reading Month, the Great Start Collaborative will distribute 15,000 books and literacy kits to Kent County families to boost early reading. The fifth-year initiative — featuring The Rainbow Fish as its new book — includes a launch event on March 25 at the Grand Rapids Public Library and extends into April.  ABC 13

  • This week Gerald R. Ford International Airport received several awards at the 2024 Airport Service Quality Awards—its recognitions included Best Airport for 2 to 5 Million Passengers in North America and Most Dedicated Staff. The airport served over 4 million passengers this year, showing its ongoing commitment to a quality guest experience.  FOX 17

  • Outdoor fans can explore hundreds of vendor booths, live fishing seminars, and hands-on displays at the 80th Ultimate Sport Show at DeVos Place from March 13 to March 16—activities include boat demonstrations, trout fishing contests, and a Lumberjack Show. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 14 with multi-day passes available for $18.  ABC 13

  • A developer is turning an old one-story building in Roosevelt Park into a three-floor structure with 17 apartments and retail space after receiving a $874,000 MEDC grant.
