- ➤ A new report shows Kent County’s young adult population is rising in many communities including Grand Rapids — Kalamazoo and several surrounding towns. Analysts are working to understand the factors behind the growth. FOX 17
- ➤ The Grand Rapids Public Library will host a spring book sale on April 25-26 at the Main Library, offering books, music and movies at low prices. Saturday’s sale sells books for 50 cents each and Sunday’s promotion is $5 for a grocery bag with own bag (special items are separate). MLive
- ➤ The John Ball Zoo is opening today in Grand Rapids (heralding a new destination for local families) as it prepares to welcome visitors. FOX 17
- ➤ Hope Network volunteers and Beer City Dog Biscuits’ Brew Bakers are making St. Patrick’s Day shamrock treats with spent grain this week at Sunshine Community Church — in Creston — and 300 skilled Brew Bakers now produce natural dog treats available in 243 Meijer stores. ABC 13

- ➤ Microsoft plans to buy 57.8 acres near its current 365-acre site for a proposed data center in Gaines Township. The township will review its rezoning request to light industrial at a Planning Commission meeting on April 15 — neighbor concerns remain part of the discussion. FOX 17

- ➤ The Breakaway EDM festival will be held Aug. 14-15 at Belknap Park, featuring Subtronics, Fisher, It’s Murph and 23 other acts. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 23 — general admission, VIP options and travel packages are available. MLive

- ➤ The Michigan House passed a bill to ban the growth and sale of kratom and it now will head to the state Senate for a vote. Lawmakers say the ban aims to protect health, noting no proven benefit for the product (Rep. Matt Hall explained the move). FOX 17

- ➤ Dr. Michael Tuczynski of Cutting Edge Vasectomy said more men are scheduling vasectomies in March to time the five-minute procedure around basketball games — a trend observed as his clinic, which does over 1,000 a year, expects about 200 this month. ABC 13

- ➤ The Grand Rapids Rise volleyball team visited Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital this week as part of their Players With Purpose program — $5 from each home match ticket supports local nonprofits. They also played wheelchair volleyball to help patients enjoy therapy. FOX 17
