  • Aquinas College hosts a free Disability Advocacy Awareness event today at the Alksnis Recreation Building - 1580 E. Fulton, where local groups will offer disability resources, services, and volunteer opportunities for both children and adults.  MLive
  • Betty Kellenberger, an 80-year-old hiker who set an Appalachian Trail record in 2025, is now hiking the North Country Trail with one-quarter in Michigan & she plans to explore trails in Europe this summer. She urges her community to keep moving and enjoy nature.  ABC 13
  • Guiding Light will serve a free Easter dinner to anyone in need on March 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 255 S. Division Ave (Heartside neighborhood) in Grand Rapids, offering a traditional ham dinner with sides and dessert that requires no reservation.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The concrete medians installed along Plainfield Avenue (2025) by Plainfield Township made it harder for customers to reach Northview businesses, with several shop owners reporting lost revenue and longer routes to exit.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grandville Public Schools selected longtime leader John Philo as superintendent after community input at Tuesday's board meeting; he will begin his new role July 1 (district officials expect his insider experience to guide a smooth transition).  FOX 17
  • Registration is open for free summer camps for children ages 6 to 12 at Garfield Park, MLK Park and Roosevelt Park from June 15 to August 14. The camps offer sports, arts, STEM projects and free meals (residents only) while non-residents pay a fee and must register separately for each session.  MLive
  • Rockford High School’s Student Success Team—led by Assistant Principal Chelsea Cates—is providing tutoring and mental health support that has cut course failures by 36% for over 2,000 students. The team meets weekly to track attendance, behavior, and academic progress.  FOX 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials issued a No Body Contact advisory for parts of the Grand River (from Lake Michigan Drive to 68th Ave) and Ottawa Creek (from Lake Michigan Drive to the Grand River) after a sewage discharge caused by a clog starting last Thursday was detected. Tests and cleanup efforts are underway.  ABC 13
  • Dr. Diana Bitner of True. Women's Health says colorectal cancer is rising among younger West Michigan residents during CRC Awareness Month and urges people with a family history or obesity to get tested early and adopt healthier habits.  FOX 17

  • A new $25 million project will add 109 apartments and commercial space to the West Side after receiving a $4.75M state loan yesterday. Construction Simplified will build the former Adobe site at 617 Fulton West (intersection of Seward and Fulton) with the city offering $3.6M in incentives.  FOX 17
