COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cascade Township has voted to join a multi-community effort to designate the Thornapple River as an official water trail & improve access and information for users. The partners will work on state applications and enhanced signage at Tassell Park this summer.  FOX 17
  • Multiple riverfront projects are underway in downtown as the new 12,000-seat amphitheater (opening May 15 with Lionel Richie) nears completion; dam removals, park renovations and high-rise proposals promise to boost local recreation and commerce. Officials say these investments will revitalize the city’s waterfront in the coming months.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tommy's Express opened its new car wash at 1970 Breton Road SE near Breton Village and is offering free washes through Sunday, April 5. The facility includes free floor mat washers and vacuum stations and emphasizes sustainability and guest experience.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • GRCC’s student-run taproom now offers takeout beer with Thursday service from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Fountain Hill Brewery in the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center; the six rotating 12-ounce canned options (priced $2.50 to $3) support program costs and student scholarships.  MLive
  • Grand Rapids Public Schools placed Chief Area Instructional Leader Bridget Cheney on leave until June as announced by Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby today, citing a personnel matter. This is the second administrative leave after Deputy Superintendent Brandy Lovelady Mitchell was placed on leave on March 12 (details remain undisclosed).  FOX 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgetown Township crews are building a 24-inch water transmission pipe at the corner of 48th and Port Sheldon, forcing drivers to use a detour (via Port Sheldon to 36th to Baldwin and back onto 48th) as work continues through November.  FOX 17
  • Georgetown Township is closing 48th Avenue from March 30 until Aug. 30 to install a new water main that will support summer water demand; township officials ask residents to follow an odd-even watering schedule to conserve water.  FOX 17
  • Nelson Township finalized a deal to take over the Sand Lake Fire Department, with funding tied to a May 5 vote on a 1.5-mill increase that may raise about $315,000 in its first year—linking fire service costs across neighboring townships.  FOX 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • A West Michigan psychologist advises families to prepare safety plans and use breathing & grounding exercises to manage storm anxiety during recent severe weather. Parents can help children stay calm by discussing their feelings openly.  ABC 13
