  • Grand Rapids families can enjoy a busy spring break as Carnival Day at the Grand Rapids Public Museum starts today—featuring live entertainment, face painting, and treats. Other events will offer sports displays, LEGO building contests, horse rides, water park fun, and art shows through April.  MLive

  • On April 3rd, Hudsonville Ice Cream added Peach Cobbler, Coffee Chip and Mint Deer Traxx to its all-season lineup and offered Tropical Twist as a limited-time flavor. The company also made fan favorites Traverse City Cherry Fudge and Brownie Batter Cookie Dough available in bar packs — sold at Meijer, Kroger and Food City —.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Grand Rapids Public Museum, the world’s largest collection of autographed Detroit Tigers baseballs is on display. Donated by longtime fan Steve Nagengast—who collected nearly 1,200 baseballs and the Al Kaline Gold Glove trophy—the permanent exhibit is available for all visitors with regular museum admission.  WOOD TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sarah Grey will replace retiring Dave Faber as the superintendent of Catholic schools effective July 1 in the Diocese of Grand Rapids—she has served as assistant superintendent since Fall 2020.  MLive
  • Grand Rapids Public Schools will hold a meeting on April 15 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Aberdeen Academy to present plans and renderings for a new elementary school that will be built behind the current building and replace Aberdeen and Palmer Academies. The school is expected to open in 2027 and let learning continue uninterrupted while the old building is demolished — a project funded by a $38 million bond passed in 2023.  WOOD TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A line of severe thunderstorms produced 10 tornadoes on Sunday—the most in one day since 2001—in lower Michigan. Strong winds snapped trees, damaged buildings and killed three children when a tree fell on a minivan near Kalamazoo.  WOOD TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials said an adult in Kent County tested positive for measles and people at Gerald R. Ford International Airport might have been exposed. City leaders also announced that the Corewell building will be demolished while planning for a new $46M firefighter facility is underway.  MLive
  • I-96 is closed at Fruit Ridge Avenue for demolition of the Fruit Ridge Bridge; traffic is detoured using ramps and drivers may face heavy backups, as the closure began 7 p.m. Friday (April 4) and will end by 6 a.m. Monday (April 7).  FOX 17

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity Kent County announced an $8 million capital campaign to build 100 affordable homes in Grand Rapids over the next three years. The effort is currently $2 million short and includes a 54-unit development in Roosevelt Park called Pleasant Hills.  MLive
