- ➤ Nonprofits, philanthropists + business leaders launched the Downtown Pathways Project in March to end chronic homelessness in Grand Rapids by year-end. The program builds on a prior campaign that housed 227 people since Sept. 2024 while 172 individuals currently receive assistance. FOX 17
- ➤ Heavy rain washed out tracks in West Michigan, forcing Amtrak to cancel Pere Marquette trains between Chicago and Grand Rapids and arrange alternate bus service for Monday morning riders; Amtrak said it hopes to resume service later if CSX reopens the tracks. FOX 17

- ➤ Young Louie Gadziemski, aiming to beat his family's speed record for Eagle Scout, earned the award from Troop 290 in February while coping with his brother Desi’s death in a Dec. 31, 2024 crash. He led a school project at City High/Middle School to honor Desi’s memory and unite peers. MLive

- ➤ Heavy spring rains since March 1 have set record precipitation in West Michigan, prompting flood warnings along the Grand River near Comstock Park where levels may soon reach major flood stage — more rains are expected through Friday. ABC 13

- ➤ East Grand Rapids is expanding its lifeguard team with pay increases that raise hourly wages and shift premiums to attract more staff amid rising pool use. City officials say the changes will cover less desirable shifts + maintain safety during busy aquatic programs. FOX 17

- ➤ Developer Matt O’Connor will demolish the credit union at 1225 Plymouth Ave. NE to build Plymouth Flats—48 apartment units with 72 parking spaces, including income-restricted rentals—using $1.75 million in tax-increment financing approved by the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority; construction should start this summer with units opening late 2027.
