  • Pinery Park Little League equipment manager Ryan Andrews has given away free baseball gear (hats, pants, mitts, cleats, bats) to help local families in Wyoming as spring baseball returns.  FOX 17
  • The Michigan Women Veterans Conference returns to Cascade Township this weekend after last October’s cancellation, gathering about 180 women veterans to connect through speed friending, yoga, meditation, and a trailer honoring women of war while organizers plan a follow-up event in Bay City for October.  FOX 17

  • Byline Bank seized Flanagan’s Irish Pub on Pearl St. NW in February after owners Ben and Martha Penrod defaulted on a $536,283 court judgment, leaving the once popular bar vacant since its license was suspended in June 2025.  MLive
  • Holland-based Our Brewing Company is set to open its Grand Rapids location at 738 Wealthy St. SE in June; the microbrewery will pair its craft beers with Picnic, an adjacent food truck garden scheduled to open in May.  MLive
  • Adobo Boy, a new family owned restaurant on Plainfield Ave NE, will open its grand event on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature a ribbon cutting, Tinikling dance by GVSU students and raffles, with founder Ace Marasigan (a local Asian-Pacific Festival organizer) DJing.  MLive

  • The James C. Veen Observatory in Lowell Township will open for free stargazing on Saturday, April 25 from 8 to 11 p.m. The Grand Rapids Public Museum will also host a screening of Apollo 1: A Feature Documentary on Wednesday, April 29 at the Meijer Theater.  MLive
  • Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park will host 34 summer concerts from May 27 to Sept. 16 with acts like O.A.R. and Switchfoot; five shows cost $100 for non-members compared to eight. Member tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 18 + general tickets at 9 a.m. Friday, April 24.  MLive

  • Mary Free Bed orthotists crafted a custom brace for Jasmine, a two-week-old foal with a fractured ankle, using human fracture bracing methods and a detailed mold taken at the Kempf barn; the work in the Grand Rapids lab helped the foal fully heal and now she is enjoying life.  ABC 13
  • Bissell is voluntarily recalling over 1.7 million handheld steam cleaners sold at Target, Walmart, and online from October 2024 through March due to reports of burn injuries when attachments pop off + spray hot water. Affected customers should stop using the attachments and register online for free replacement parts.  ABC 13

  • Anglers flock to Rockford Dam today as steelhead and rainbow trout make their annual upstream journey to spawn. The Michigan DNR has set a one-fish-per-day rule (fish must be at least 10 inches) to help manage the catch.  FOX 17
