  • Local nonprofits In The Image and the Women’s Resource Center are asking residents to donate clean, gently used items—like clothing, shoes, books, and household goods—to help families in need and support job seekers preparing for interviews.   • Chuck Mikowski, who began at WZZM on Jan. 7th, 1980, retired after 45 years of work. He led the broadcast engineering team (managing the switch from analog to digital broadcasting) and now plans to spend more time with his family (the station renamed its maintenance shop in his honor).  ABC 13

  • A Kent County drug team (KANET) arrested a Grand Rapids man with a history of drug offenses while seizing 11 pounds of cocaine and 1.7 pounds of fentanyl, valued at over $1 million, and a loaded handgun from a Southwest Side home.  MLive
  • Former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr will face trial on April 28 for second-degree murder in the killing of Congolese immigrant Patrick Lyoya—shot three years ago after a traffic stop struggle—after Judge Christina Mims barred a live Taser demonstration during a Wednesday hearing. Amway updated its Ada Township headquarters lobby as part of a $127.6 million expansion, adding floor-to-ceiling windows, new furniture and technology.  MLive
  • A traffic stop on April 15th led police to a Grand Rapids storage shed where nearly two pounds of fentanyl pills—8,500 in total—were found, and the man renting the unit is now headed to prison.  WOOD TV

  • A 69-year-old Ottawa County man won a $667,862 Fast Cash jackpot at Freeman's Leaky Tap in Walkerville while dining with his family. He said he will share the winnings with his family and donate to charities and his church.  ABC 13

  • Residents across West Michigan are joining Earth Day events to clean parks and streets and promote conservation for Tuesday, April 22. In Grand Rapids, volunteers will start a cleanup on Friday, April 18 and take part in nature activities today at the Downtown Market and Kent District Library—other events in nearby counties include tree plantings, beach cleanups and recycling drives through April 27.  MLive
