- ➤ AYA Youth Collective said its pilot cash assistance program helped 45 young people in Grand Rapids avoid homelessness with one-time payments averaging $2,744 that led to stable housing after 30 days—many of the recipients also helped support their households. The program, part of a national effort in seven states, will be studied further as new housing data is expected in summer. MLive

- ➤ Protesters marched downtown after Judge Christina Mims declared a mistrial in the case against former GRPD officer Christopher Schurr over Patrick Lyoya’s death in a 2022 traffic stop—officers used pepper spray during the march and one person was arrested as demonstrators demanded a retrial.
