  • Retail giant Meijer is offering up to 60% off its store-brand cookout essentials and summer treats to help families manage rising food costs. The 10-week promotion—running until July 19—includes items such as popsicles, lemonade, and hot dog buns.  MLive
  • A Grand Rapids-area motorcycle manufacturer plans an $18.5 million three-year expansion to add 162 jobs and acquire a 120,000-square-foot building to meet increased demand for its Super Cruiser model. The project is supported by state grants totaling nearly $1.6 million to fund job training.  MLive
  • Roger Bouwman will open GringoDog’s Dog House on June 1 at 3648 S. Division Ave in Wyoming — a brick-and-mortar spot serving his popular all-beef hot dogs and more, while his mobile cart stays active in downtown near Van Andel Arena. Building inspections are still pending as the new restaurant prepares for drive-thru and walk-up service.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • A state trooper was partially dragged over 60 feet during a Grand Rapids traffic stop Tuesday afternoon when the driver attempted to flee and was arrested after the vehicle stopped while an illegal firearm was recovered, and the trooper was not injured.  FOX 17
  • Marcus Durayalle Lofton, 43, is on trial for open murder after he shot his wife 15 times when she served him divorce papers and he said he lost control during the shooting & his trial began on May 20 and will continue today at Kent County Circuit Court.  MLive

  • Opera Grand Rapids announced its 58th season themed East Meets Midwest that highlights Asian American and Pacific Islander talent. The season includes an all-Asian cast production of H.M.S. Pinafore at Forest Hills Fine Arts Center and the first international co-production of Madame Butterfly at DeVos Performance Hall—marking a new milestone in the company’s legacy.  MLive

  • Recent college graduates face job market challenges as nearly 6 percent are unemployed and 71 percent of Gen-Z say getting noticed is their biggest hurdle — experts advise using mentors, career services, and alumni networks to improve their chances.   • Grand Rapids city commissioners approved a $735 million budget for fiscal year 2026 with a 6.5% increase and added 22 new positions to support public safety and services—City Manager Mark Washington said the new jobs will cost about $2.3 million.  FOX 17
