- ➤ On Monday, May 25, residents in Sparta gathered at Lamoreaux Brothers Veterans Memorial Park to honor 71 local service members, including three WWII heroes, as organizers handed out commemorative cards + held a missing man ceremony for those still unaccounted. FOX 17
- ➤ Families in Ada Township attended the first Memorial Day event at the new veterans memorial in Covered Bridge Park, dedicated by the American Legion Post 451 and local partners where granite tablets trace local history from Ada's founding through modern military conflicts. FOX 17
- ➤ Retired Lt. Col. Denny Gillem, named Kent County Veteran of the Year, honored Memorial Day at Veterans Memorial Park yesterday — he recognized the courage of fallen soldiers as names of WWI victims were read at Fountain Street Church. FOX 17

- ➤ Michael Spagnuolo was named Teacher of the Week for his groundbreaking program that gives young adults with developmental disabilities real work experience at the Goodwill Outlet in Grandville – students work Monday through Thursday to build essential job skills. ABC 13
- ➤ Sanskriti Parihar — a 13-year-old student from Fremont — won the Greater Grand Rapids Spelling Bee and earned a place at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. She overcame a near miss last year and now prepares for the contest starting today at Constitution Hall. FOX 17
