- ➤ Kentwood will host a free family festival at city hall on Saturday, June 6 from noon to 8 p.m.—the event will feature food trucks, vendors, live music, a beer tent, yard games, kids activities and a foam party. FOX 17
- ➤ Grand Rapids city officials are inviting residents to pitch neighborhood projects for the Neighborhood Match Fund. Proposals (due June 30) can earn $500 to $5,000 for projects scheduled between September and February, with a special focus on ideas supporting Welcoming Week, Sept. 10-19. ABC 13

- ➤ MillerKnoll, the Zeeland-based furniture maker, announced on Monday, June 1 that CEO Andi Owen took a leave of absence and will retire on June 30 with interim CEO Jeff Stutz taking over duties. The board (searching both internal and external candidates) will launch a comprehensive process for a new leader. MLive

- ➤ Downtown Studio Park in Grand Rapids will host the free Sunset Cinema outdoor movie series starting Saturday, June 6 through Aug. 22 at 8 p.m.; the series features 11 films chosen by the public and skips July 4. MLive
- ➤ Acrisure Amphitheater announced its first 2027 show as Stick Figure will perform on June 11 & tickets go on sale Friday, June 5 at 10 a.m. Organizers expect to announce more concerts before the new season. FOX 17

- ➤ Consumers Energy increased summer rates beginning Monday, June 1, with $0.245/kWh from 2 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and $0.197/kWh at other times — a measure designed to ease grid strain that will continue through Sept. 30. ABC 13
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Community leaders gathered Monday along the Grand River at Ah-Nab-Awen Park to mark the Restore the Rapids project—red ochre-marked stones were set in the water as a symbol of future dam removals. Construction will start July 1 to remove four dams, improving water safety and fish habitat. MLive
- ➤ Recent black bear sightings in Coopersville, Georgetown Township and Muskegon led the DNR to explain that a growing bear population is moving south along connected forests (young males seek new territories away from crowded areas). The department warns residents to secure trash and outdoor food to reduce encounters. ABC 13

- ➤ The historic 111 Lyon office building converted 95,025 sqft into 140 apartment units with preserved commercial space, celebrated by city leaders, developers, & stakeholders. The first apartments will be available for rent on June 5. ABC 13
