  • A new Raising Cane's restaurant is under construction at 3650 28th St. SE in Kentwood near Trader Joe's; it will be Michigan's fourth location and the first west of Lansing (expected to open in December 2025 with 55 jobs and at a cost of $3.8 million).  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today organizations in Grand Rapids host Juneteenth events that include the Afro-Gaga Parade starting at noon from Hall Street to Dickinson Buffer Park and a scholarship gala at the Grand Rapids Art Museum from 6 to 9 p.m.—a free Juneteenth Jam and a run/walk at Calder Plaza add extra celebration. In Muskegon County, a parade begins at 11 a.m. with a moment of silence at 10:45 a.m.—Family Fun Day at Hackley Park runs until 5 p.m. while an art showcase at the Muskegon Museum of Art starts at 6:30 p.m.  MLive
  • West Michigan will host a busy weekend as the 37th annual Pride Festival will begin at Calder Plaza with live music and vendors, WWE SmackDown will return at Van Andel Arena, the 2025 Gran Fondo will start at 8 a.m., Electric Forest in Rothbury will run from Thursday through Sunday, an 'Alice in Wonderland' themed adult prom will take place at Silva, and the inaugural Michigan Food Truck and Craft Beverage Festival along with the Meijer State Games, the 53rd annual Charlotte Bluegrass Festival, and an aerial drone show over Muskegon Lake honoring military members will offer many options — locals have plenty to choose from — as community spirit shines through these plans.  WOOD TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Vicinity Energy has installed a 9 megawatt electric boiler at its downtown Grand Rapids plant, marking the first new boiler in 60 years at the Edison-era facility. The project, backed by a $2 million grant, will supply carbon free energy to more than 120 buildings—helping the company move toward net zero emissions by 2050.  WOOD TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gerald R. Ford International Airport opened its first shared-use lounge, The Club GRR, in an expanded Concourse A—located between Gates A3 and A5—and it features local art and design that honor Grand Rapids’ furniture history, including a nod to President Ford. The 3,428-square-foot lounge offers light food and beverages and is available to Priority Pass and LoungeKey members with day passes for $50 as part of efforts to handle record passenger growth.  ABC 13
  • MDOT plans to spend $30 million to rebuild about 700 feet of the Martin Luther King Jr. Street bridge from the northbound US-131 ramps east in a project set to begin in 2026. MDOT will hold a public meeting on June 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Fire Department to explain the work and answer questions.  WOOD TV
