On Saturday, cyclists endured nearly 80-degree heat and 20 mile per hour winds during the Gran Fondo Race, which began at 8 a.m. outside Van Andel Arena and stretched from downtown to the lakeshore.

The event featured over 1,000 riders of all ages and aimed to raise $125,000 for local Mary Free Bed programs (wheelchair and adaptive sports, recreational therapy, and Mary Free Beds Kids).

A six-year-old drowned in Millennium Park at 1415 Maynard Ave. SW after being reported missing in the water while supervised by family members; police, fire and marine units searched the area but could not revive the child.
