  • Griffin Gullekson, a Sparta high school athlete, was honored by the Michigan House for his strength in battling cancer and serving the community—he was diagnosed in 2024 and is now in remission while returning to the basketball court and helping start a youth program in Grand Rapids.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A plane crashed at Ottawa County Executive Airport (June 29th), killing a pilot from West Michigan.  WOOD TV
  • A driver suffered serious injuries after being pulled from a burning car by an Army veteran and an off-duty officer near Fillmore Township on SB I-196 near M-40 Friday — the driver, who had burns to his lower legs, was taken to the hospital for treatment.  FOX 17
  • A car crashed into Heroes Corner—a veterans nonprofit building in Kentwood—on June 29th, injuring several people.  WOOD TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Kentwood Police said several people were hurt when a driver crashed into the Hero’s Corner building on Eastern Ave near 48th St at 3:40 a.m. on Sunday — victims with some serious injuries received treatment on-scene as the driver was taken into custody and alcohol was believed to be a factor.  FOX 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ruth Crowe shared her life story in The Journal Project, a personal art exhibit that shows her journey as a lesbian artist overcoming family rejection and job challenges while earning the Juried Visibility Award at ArtPrize. Her work will be on display this September at her Douglas gallery—offering viewers a look into her past and hopes for the future.  WOOD TV
