Good morning, Grand Rapids.

On Tuesday, June 30, Kent County residents flocked to Millennium Park (1415 Maynard Ave. SW in Walker) to cool off with a splash pad and beach as high 80's to low 90's heat hit; the park also offers nature trails and boat rentals, with heat forecast until Saturday.

Families are flocking to Holland State Park today to beat the heat as temperatures hit the 90s, and a local doctor advises visitors to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen with available shade for Fourth of July celebrations approaching (a reminder to protect young children).

Owasippe Scout Reservation in Twin Lake celebrated America’s 250th birthday by looking back over its 115-year legacy on 4,000 acres that has drawn nearly 5,000 scouts each season (the camp’s museum showcases artifacts from its early years).

It remains a cherished summer destination for families seeking adventure.

Caledonia High School riders on the equestrian team will now receive varsity letters (accompanied by a principal's certificate) after a petition by riders and parents led the district to approve recognition for club sports, expanding the new approach to all competitive activities at the school.

Root Library, where families with young children find safe relief from the rising temperatures. Neighbors are choosing indoor spaces as playground equipment heats up.

Families are advised to take frequent breaks, drink water, and visit splash pads as temperatures rise into the 90s.
