  • Over the past decade, a $12 million land deal and a partnership between Amway, the DeVos family, and Ada Township transformed a strip mall into Ada Village—an area with shops, restaurants, and offices along the Thornapple River.   • Ethan Luke Oosterhouse pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter in a road rage incident near Allendale that killed 27-year-old Sha-Tera Coleman, and an Ottawa County judge sentenced him to at least eight years in prison — his driver’s license was forfeited while co-defendant Denis Noel Perez faces a court appearance in two weeks.  WOOD TV
  • On July 26, a Traverse City Walmart attack saw a 42-year-old suspect stab 11 people while a former marine bystander from Kent County grabbed a shopping cart—using his training to hold the attacker down until police arrived.  FOX 17

  • The 47th annual Hispanic Festival will take place Aug 1-3 at Calder Plaza in Grand Rapids and is the Hispanic Center of West Michigan's largest fundraiser.   • Hudsonville Ice Cream is expanding its Holland plant with a new production line for frozen Greek yogurt that will create 44 jobs—construction will begin before the end of summer and the line is projected to run in the first quarter next year with hiring starting now.  WOOD TV

  • Gov. Whitmer announced $1.49 million in Match on Main grants to support 63 local businesses and create jobs — including several in West Michigan. West Michigan recipients like K5 Restaurants in Grand Rapids and Kristina Gould in Greenville each received up to $25,000 for expansion plans.  ABC 13
  • Activists interrupted Tuesday night's Grand Rapids City Commission meeting by chanting for sanctuary city policies, which paused public comment. The meeting resumed minutes later as commissioners discussed proposals to limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement—reflecting deep local concern.  FOX 17
