Lofton was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison for second-degree murder and two years for a weapons violation after he shot his estranged wife as she tried to climb out an open window at their Grand Rapids home on Union Avenue SE — he had served 721 days in jail since his arrest after the killing on Aug. 17 — following his guilty plea in July. The upgrades include a new locker area, kitchen, gym, cafeteria and secure entrance — providing bright natural light and updated systems for students on an alternative graduation path. MLive
