- ➤ Bamboo GR is converting the former UICA building in downtown into a new incubation hub that will open later this year, offering a 40,000 sq ft co-working lounge — complete with a 200-seat theater and a rooftop patio. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Marcus D. Lofton was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison for second-degree murder and two years for a weapons violation after he shot his estranged wife as she tried to climb out an open window at their Grand Rapids home on Union Avenue SE — he had served 721 days in jail since his arrest after the killing on Aug. 17 — following his guilty plea in July. - ➤ On August 6th, Grand Rapids Public Schools held a ribbon cutting at the new Southeast Career Pathways building, renovated with $7M funding and converted from the former Sigsbee Elementary School — part of the Reimagine GRPS effort to curb enrollment declines and deferred maintenance. The upgrades include a new locker area, kitchen, gym, cafeteria and secure entrance — providing bright natural light and updated systems for students on an alternative graduation path. MLive
