GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Rapids City Commission voted Tuesday to approve the top 20 priorities of the city’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, which aims to cut 62.8% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. City staff will now study the cost and feasibility of the proposals—officials noted the plan does not mandate immediate changes.  FOX 17
  • Law enforcement agencies statewide launch the 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign on Friday and will run it through Sept. 1 to curb impaired driving—Grand Rapids Police and other local departments will target drivers suspected of alcohol or drug use.  WOOD TV
  • The Grand Rapids City Commission approved labor agreements that raise police pay using a plan effective from July 1 to June 30—with officers set for a 4% increase and command officers receiving a 5% raise this summer. The agreements also include retroactive pay and follow-up raises next summer.  WOOD TV

  • Trinity Health Grand Rapids Heart and Vascular introduced a new hypertension treatment for patients who do not respond to medication after a patient successfully underwent the minimally invasive Symplicity Spyral™ renal denervation system procedure on July 31 — a method that targets overactive nerves near the kidneys. Health leaders say the procedure could lead to additional breakthroughs in controlling high blood pressure — a condition affecting many Americans.  ABC 13
