ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Kentwood police said a man aged 58 was walking on Eastern Avenue SE near Hardwick Drive when he was struck and killed by a northbound vehicle— the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. MLive
- ➤ A 36-year-old woman died Sunday night on Alpine Avenue near 8 Mile Road after her car overturned when it crossed the median and hit a northbound vehicle—police said the other driver was uninjured and the investigation is ongoing. ABC 13
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Toasted Pickle, a sandwich shop with locations in Grand Haven and Rockford, opened a new space at 820 Michigan St. NE in Grand Rapids on August 12. The restaurant offers over 15 sandwiches — including French dip, grilled cheese and Cuban — plus soups, salads and sides, and it will operate Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. MLive

- ➤ Kentwood Police said a 58-year-old man was hit and killed while walking along Eastern Ave. SE near Hardwick Dr. just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday night— the driver stayed at the scene as authorities said it is unclear if alcohol was involved. FOX 17

- ➤ Robinette's Apple Haus & Winery in Grand Rapids is creating a corn maze themed to celebrate 175 years of our city's history that will open September 2 and run through November 1 — tickets cost $10 per person. FOX 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Rapids Promise Zone scholarship has helped over 2,000 students join Grand Rapids Community College by covering tuition and fees for up to 72 credit hours. Program leaders say enrollment will grow with new high schools and extra counseling — and a major update is coming soon. MLive
- ➤ GRCC launched a new degree program in artificial intelligence and a capstone course that partners students with local businesses to work on hands-on projects. The 64-credit program is part of an NSF-funded three-year plan — it expects about 60 students to learn computer programming and AI skills. WOOD TV
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Crews began demolishing three buildings near Lake Drive in Eastown yesterday to clear space for the Robinson Road Flats project that will have 24 apartments and three retail spots—demolition is expected to take about a week and a half before work on the four-story building starts.
