- ➤ Mel Trotter Ministries is hosting an event today to celebrate finishing its first tiny home in Hope Village—one of 16 planned stand-alone units for people transitioning from unstable housing near its Next Step facility on Garden Street SE. Leaders said the home includes a private bathroom, in-unit washer and dryer, and offers access to nearby job opportunities with 10 units expected to be finished by the end of 2025. WOOD TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two women were shot early Sunday, Aug. 24th at a car meetup on Grand Rapids' 1100 block of 36th Street and remain in stable condition; police said the shooting stemmed from an altercation and a car fire at the event was caused by a mechanical issue. MLive
- ➤ A woman was shot early Sunday near Division Avenue South — Rose Street Southwest and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition while police continue to search for the suspect. WOOD TV
- ➤ Two women aged 18 to 24 were shot at a Grand Rapids car meetup around 3:40 a.m. south of 36th Street near Steelcase Access on Sunday, and both were taken to a local hospital in stable condition—police say an altercation sparked the shooting and the suspect remains at large. WOOD TV

- ➤ Downtown Grand Rapids hosted its fourth annual Return to the River festival on Saturday, Aug. 23, with more than 25 music acts, art displays, and fun activities at several downtown spots. The festival will continue on Sunday, Aug. 24 as families join free events such as a puppy petting zone — adding a magical twist to the day. MLive
