- ➤ Grand Rapids’ Happy Cat Cafe, open for eight years, is nearing 1,000 adoptions as it connects locals with cats in need of homes. Owner Kati Quarto said the cafe has achieved about 990 adoptions — with ten cats still waiting for a home and an adoption fee of 125 dollars. FOX 17

- ➤ A 52-year-old man died and two others were injured after a domestic dispute led to a stabbing in the Holland area, with officers reporting the incident occurred at Leisure Estates mobile home community — deputies responded at 7:40 p.m. on Aug. 28 — and a 25-year-old man is now the suspect. - ➤ ArtPrize, a 16-day international art competition, will take place from Sept. 18 to Oct. 4 across 155 venues in Grand Rapids next month—featuring 931 entries from 1,100 artists and an opening night celebration at Rosa Parks Circle with a parade and fireworks. MLive

- ➤ Kent County Board of Commissioners approved $8.9 million from Ready by Five Millage to fund 30 early childhood programs run by 16 organizations—funds that will start in October and run until September; more than 14,000 children benefited from these programs in 2024. ABC 13
- ➤ The Rapid announced that starting August 31 it will offer hourly bus service on Route 12 from downtown to Standale Meijer — trips run between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. while its summer Route 1000 to Millennium Park concludes for the season. MLive

- ➤ With students back in classrooms, doctors report more hand, foot and mouth disease cases in West Michigan, with daily visits noted in Grand Haven plus the virus is causing a rash and mouth blisters. Dr. Ben Tift urges families to practice good hand hygiene and plan for flu shots in September and October. FOX 17
- ➤ Corewell Health’s Aero Med began offering live-saving whole blood transfusions for trauma patients with severe hemorrhaging. The program, approved in mid-July after nearly three years of planning, is one of the first pre-hospital whole-blood initiatives in Michigan—improving emergency care in the field. MLive
