  • West Michigan families can celebrate Labor Day weekend with events like the 49th Annual All Arts Crafts Fair at Stanley Johnston Park that opens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, a drop-in art project at the Grand Rapids Art Museum from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a fun festival with food trucks and live bands; a Greatest Generation parade in Grand Rapids will be held tomorrow at Calder Plaza at 10:30 a.m.—showcasing classic cars, a WWII airplane, and bands that honor veterans.  FOX 17

  • Walker police asked the community for help on Saturday in searching for 67-year-old Bill Wilson, who was last seen leaving Valley View Care Center on 4 Mile Road NW wearing a dark blue T-shirt and blue jeans — he is 6 feet tall, weighs 120 pounds, and may be confused while looking for his wife.  WOOD TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grand Rapids Public Museum is restoring its 97-year-old 1928 Spillman Carousel with a $12 to $15 million project that will add wheelchair accessible features such as ramps, soundproof baffles and a custom-built chariot—updates meant to let more visitors ride. The historic carousel will reopen later this year as part of a larger riverfront project.  MLive

  • Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron Bieber said Labor Day remains an important rallying point for workers — with polling showing 70% support for unions including 9 in 10 under 30 — as he compared modern challenges like gig work and surveillance to struggles from the past.  WOOD TV

  • A water main break on Saturday afternoon left parts of Ada Township under a boil water advisory as residents must boil or use bottled water to avoid contamination—officials are testing the water and restoring pressure and expect the advisory to lift by Tuesday evening.  MLive

  • Ferris State University launched a 24/7 crisis support line for students and staff facing mental health emergencies—available by dialing 231-591-HELP at the Personal Counseling Center on Big Rapids and Grand Rapids campuses. The service, provided in partnership with Protocall Services, is free for enrolled individuals and aims to shorten wait times.  MLive

  • Grand Rapids Gus Macker tournament registration is extended until midnight Monday, Sept. 1 so basketball teams can sign up before 350 spots are filled. Kenowa Hills High School will host the 3-on-3 tournament on Sept. 13-14 (opening at 8:00 a.m. Saturday) with proceeds supporting athletic programs (registration fee is $170).  FOX 17
