- ➤ The Grand Rapids Public Library is celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month in September by providing discounts at local coffee shops and bookstores and giving away limited-edition cards and free swag for new in-person sign-ups while supplies last. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Grand Rapids marriage counselor Mario Gibson Franciscotty, executive director of Wellspring Counseling, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a patient during therapy sessions on Ada Place Drive SE in April and May — he faces two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and will appear in court on Sept. 5. - ➤ Grand Rapids Police said they responded at 2:30 a.m. on Diamone Ave. SE near Wealthy St. where they found a man shot dead—police are also investigating a separate triple shooting that occurred hours earlier. FOX 17
- ➤ Grand Rapids Police are investigating a shooting near Burton St. SE and Francis Ave. SE—three people were hurt and taken to the hospital as officers continue to search for a suspect after receiving a call at 11:15 p.m. FOX 17
- ➤ Grand Rapids police identified four juveniles in an Aug. 16 burglary and assault that severely injured Todd Johnson, who was transferred from intensive care to a rehabilitation center—one juvenile is charged while detectives seek further charges. MLive
- ➤ Police said a deadly shooting happened on Diamond Avenue SE near Sigsbee Street SE on Sept.2 and investigators are reviewing leads. WOOD TV

- ➤ On Aug 27, Michigan gas prices hit a 2025 high of $3.39 per gallon before cooling to an average of $3.30, meaning drivers in Grand Rapids now pay about $49 for a full 15-gallon tank. AAA said refinery issues in Whiting—along with increased demand and lower domestic supply—caused the spike ahead of Labor Day weekend. ABC 13

- ➤ Caledonia Community Schools completed a $6.5M renovation of Ralph E. Myers Stadium in August, adding heated locker rooms, new bleachers, updated concessions & synthetic turf to mark its 75th anniversary. The project was funded by a bond approved by voters in May 2023 and strengthens the school's long-standing sports tradition dating back to 1950. MLive

- ➤ On Sept. 1, twelve Powerball players won at least $1 million including a Michigan ticket sold at a CVS in Grosse Pointe; no ticket won the $1.2 billion jackpot.
