  • Pete’s Tavern in Byron Center has evolved into a full-service restaurant while keeping its role as a community hub — the historic bar now offers a dedicated Pete’s Pizza brand and made-from-scratch dishes with local ingredients. The establishment hosts regular events such as music trivia and bingo — and it has doubled its pizza capacity with a new oven.  MLive
  • Skyla Jewell-Hammie is a community reporter at The Grand Rapids Press and Muskegon Chronicle at MLive.com who covers business developments and diverse neighborhoods—she spent the past four years advocating for marginalized groups in West Michigan and building local relationships while her work appears in local, state and national publications.   • An Office Depot worker in Portage lost his job after he refused to print flyers for a Charlie Kirk vigil—calling the material propaganda—Office Depot said in a statement. The company apologized to the customer and began an investigation into the incident.  WOOD TV

  • Tech Week will take place in downtown Grand Rapids from Sept. 15 to Sept. 20—featuring over 70 events that include a sold out keynote by Steve Wozniak and a free Confluence Festival at Ferris State University on Sept. 20.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Last Saturday, hundreds of volunteers+ city leaders removed trash and debris from the banks of the Grand River during the event's 22nd annual clean up. The cleanup was organized by West Michigan Environmental Action Council and aided by the Michigan League of Conservation Voters to maintain a healthy river environment.  WOOD TV
