- ➤ More than 1,000 residents gathered Saturday morning at Riverside Park for the fifth annual Paws With A Cause fundraiser, where music, dog races, and a new PAWS in the Park 5k and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk brought families and vendors together. The event raised funds to support custom-trained assistance dogs that help transform lives in the community. ABC 13

- ➤ A 9,000-square-foot inflatable light show has opened at 555 Monroe Ave. NW downtown as a ticketed part of ArtPrize 2025. The show has a big dome like a church and colored rooms and will run until Oct 4—guests must take off their shoes before entering. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Strong storms on Saturday night left more than 4,000 Consumers Energy customers without power in parts of Kent, Allegan, Ottawa and Muskegon Counties — residents were advised to stay away from downed power lines and report them to Consumers Energy immediately. FOX 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wyoming City Commission approved a tax break for Pinery Park Apartments on Sept. 15—this will fund $5.5 million in upgrades to the 105-unit building and replace four townhouses with a new 37-unit complex that adds 17 affordable units for low-income and senior residents. City Manager John Shay said the tax exemption, paid as fixed percentages of rent under a 45-year agreement, supports local affordable housing goals. MLive
- ➤ Lawmakers must pass a compromise state budget bill by Oct. 1—if they fail, state services will suffer. Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks from Grand Rapids said conflicts over spending and road repairs have delayed a deal—officials remain in talks to reach an agreement. MLive

- ➤ The Federal Reserve cut interest rates for the first time in nine months, and 30 year fixed rate mortgages dropped near 6.35% which boosted buying power in the housing market. Local realtor Tim Groenhof said the change may open a window of opportunity for buyers and those refinancing—helping them cope with high home prices. WOOD TV
