  • Chicago native Christopher Witt opened a seasonal food truck in Whitehall to serve real Chicago eats like Italian beef sandwiches served 'wet' with au jus—saving local diners a three-hour drive. The red 18-foot trailer runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday with extra dinner hours on Thursdays and Fridays.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologists say an atmospheric river will hit the West Coast on October 23 and move east—bringing a windy, rainy storm system that may affect Michigan by October 27. Residents in Grand Rapids are advised to prepare for heavy rain and high winds as cold season storms begin.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, thousands gathered at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids as part of the No Kings movement to protest federal policies amid a government shutdown. Public speakers addressed the crowd while demonstrators marched peacefully—no arrests were made—and held signs demanding accountability.  FOX 17
  • Monday marks 72 years since Edward R. Murrow's CBS report aired that helped Michigan man Milo Radulovich—discharged in 1953 for refusing to denounce his family—challenge McCarthy-era policies. The report spurred public outrage that led to his reinstatement and shifted focus away from excessive government power.  WOOD TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Despite wet weather, many people wore pink as they gathered yesterday at Calder Plaza for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Grand Rapids. The 1.5-mile route began at 10 a.m.—organizers offered free registration and $5 wristbands to raise funds for survivors and advocates.  WOOD TV

  • On Friday, Oct 17, 108 girls from 36 high schools began the MHSAA Division 1 golf finals at The Meadows on the Grand Valley State University campus—teams and individual players competed on Saturday for state titles.  MLive
  • Six elite wheelchair rugby teams from the US and Canada competed on Saturday at the MSA Fieldhouse and are playing today at the 13th annual Thunderfest hosted by Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports—nearly 60 athletes are showcasing a fast-paced contest that mixes basketball speed with football impact in a free event.  ABC 13
