- ➤ Amid a federal government shutdown that pauses SNAP funding in November, Max Freeman at Lotus Brew Coffee has expanded his pantry—now offering weekly potlucks and a growing supply of goods to help local residents. - ➤ Two Sons Pizza owners Jen and Steve Tyson—expanding from Traverse City—are planning to open a pop-up at 67 Ottawa Ave near Oakes Street as part of their downtown expansion. - ➤ The new Meijer Express gas station at 1710 28th St. SE opened on Thursday at the corner of 28th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue in Grand Rapids - replacing the old station that closed. - ➤ The 12th House, a local handmade art and metaphysical shop at 8 Jefferson Ave, will close its doors on Dec. 23 after four years of welcoming local artists and spiritual seekers. - ➤ The Haunt, a spooky attraction in Wyoming, marks 25 years of scaring thousands with five themed houses—including two new ones, Whispering Woods and Alien X—while owner Doug Sheldon confirmed it will operate through Halloween with special events on November 1st and 2nd. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eastbound I-196 will close at US-131 from Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. as MDOT works on five bridges at the busy downtown interchange—drivers should use northbound US-131 to reach eastbound I-96, while the ramp from eastbound I-196 to southbound US-131 also closes for part of the weekend and the $1.3 million project is expected to complete at the end of October.
