- ➤ Michigan comedians including local Mike Logan will perform at the Fall Comedy Harvest on Nov.29 at 8 p.m. at SECOM’s event space at 1545 Buchanan Avenue SW in Grand Rapids to raise funds for the SECOM Resource Center food pantry, with half of the $20 ticket price supporting food and economic aid programs. The event will also offer food trucks, free food, an art auction, and on-site babysitting for parents attending an adults only show—ensuring local families can enjoy a night that supports those in need. - ➤ Yesterdog in Grand Rapids will serve free hot dogs and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day—Thursday November 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Customers dining in at its Wealthy Street location can enjoy up to three hot dogs with no reservation required. FOX 17
- ➤ Grand Rapids has opened a day center at Westminster Presbyterian Church that gives people experiencing homelessness a warm place to get coffee, charge phones & use restrooms on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Case managers help connect clients with housing and job resources and plan to extend service hours to weekends soon. - ➤ Grand Rapids is hosting many events today as the 104th Santa Parade starts after 5 p.m.—Detroit Lions legend Herman Moore will lead the parade to Rosa Parks Circle where a tree lighting begins at 6:45 p.m., the Griffins play at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena, and festivals at DeVos Place and the Downtown Market add to the busy schedule while extra officers manage road closures. - ➤ Nearly $1.3B in investments will transform Grand Rapids' riverfront into a hub for tourism and entertainment through projects like a $184M amphitheater and a $175M soccer venue. The amphitheater will open (May 15 with Lionel Richie's concert) while tickets went on sale November 21 and the soccer venue is set to open in spring 2027. MLive

- ➤ Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore cut the ribbon on the state’s first Girl Scout DreamLab in Kentwood on Thursday — a $2 million facility with a STEM lab, podcast studio, bouldering wall, camping area and DreamStage built to empower Michigan girls to lead future projects. The new lab is one of just nine in the country and was designed to overcome accessibility barriers for the growing number of Girl Scout troops in the region. WOOD TV

- ➤ Kent County released a deer management report that recommends urban archery, increased hunter recruitment and bans on deer feeding to cut deer-vehicle collisions by 1,050 and boost deer harvests by 1,900 over the next two years—county officials will meet with local representatives in the coming months to review the 72-page plan and gather feedback before starting the program in 2026. - ➤ Corewell Health opened its new trauma recovery center on Friday at 74 Sheldon Boulevard in downtown Grand Rapids, making it the first of its kind in West Michigan and the second in the state to provide free support for trauma survivors. The center offers 16 free initial sessions funded by a $1.6 million state grant plus is staffed by trained mental health professionals to help victims heal. ABC 13
- ➤ Local doctors warn residents to take care in the kitchen while preparing Thanksgiving dinner — they advise staying close to hot pans to prevent burns and cuts and to chill leftovers within two hours in small containers so the food cools fast. - ➤ Emily Haverdink from Hudsonville shared her family’s journey during Prematurity Awareness Month after her daughter Harlow spent 45 days in the NICU at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital following complications from a COVID-related emergency.
