CULTURE NEWS

  • Matthew Rodriguez from Zeeland has launched an action figure line based on his comic series Defenders of Eden after a successful Kickstarter raised just under $150,000—he shipped over 4,000 figures in Michigan, the U.S., and abroad. He plans to release new waves with additional characters and offers the figures online and at local comic shops.  FOX 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A system snowstorm dumped 6 to 10 inches of snow over Thanksgiving weekend—confirmed reports showed some areas received more, causing church closures, airport delays and slow traffic. Weather teams and residents updated snowfall totals on Sunday as officials maintained a Weather Impact Alert.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction is underway on a new 10-acre dog park at Wahlfield Park in Alpine Township that will feature a one-acre area for small dogs, a two-acre activity field, and a pond with a dog beach. County officials said the project meets local calls for off-leash space plus will open in late spring 2026 with added walking trails and family restrooms.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Catherine’s Health Center runs a converted van outfitted with an exam table, sink, and medical supplies that visits shelters, the library, and the Pride Center in Grand Rapids twice weekly to offer healthcare to homeless residents. Since launching in July, the mobile clinic has treated about 10 patients per day and will address conditions like high blood pressure and wounds using a $500,000 federal grant, city support, and private donations—building trust in the community.  MLive
  • Michigan has expanded its doula registry to include over 1,000 trained support professionals—700 of whom are Medicaid enrolled across every county, and a new scholarship program is helping more Michiganders complete doula training to improve birth outcomes for mothers and babies.  MLive

  • At Ford Field on Sunday, fans cheered as Grand Rapids West Catholic won the Division 5 state football championship 42—14, marking the school's first title since 2022. Families, hundreds of students and players celebrated the memorable end to a hard-fought season.  FOX 17
  • West Catholic football won the division five state championship with a 42-14 win over Notre Dame Prep on Thursday night at Ford Field—its first state title since 2017. The Falcons ended the season with 13 straight wins after a season-opening loss to Northview.  ABC 13
