  • Vetr Health will host a pet-friendly Santa meet and greet on Dec. 4 from 3 to 9 p.m. at 368 Diamond Ave. SE—transforming its patio into a festive retreat with treats, a photo with Santa, and a raffle while supporting Paws With a Cause.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Snow has returned in West Michigan and local HVAC technicians warn that the holiday season will be busy as more homeowners call for repairs to failing furnaces. Daniel Wilson from Valley City Mechanical advises routine maintenance—such as checking for short cycling and replacing dirty filters—to keep furnaces working in the cold weather.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Calvin University in Grand Rapids announced it will cut 12.5% of its faculty positions over the next two years—eliminating or consolidating programs in languages, journalism and public health while providing teach-out plans for current students. The restructuring is designed to honor its distinctive mission and secure long-term sustainability.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A New York-based company proposed a 100-megawatt battery storage facility on a 12-acre site near the Van Buren substation in Blendon Township, but zoning problems and neighbor worries delayed the township planning commission’s decision—it said it would ask for legal help before changing the zoning rules.  FOX 17
  • The newly-repaved Ann Street has left residents unsure where to place their trash and recycling carts—some try the curb lawn while others use driveways, parking lanes or even the bike lane. Grand Rapids Public Works Director John Gorney said carts should go on the curb lawn but noted that alternatives may be used when the curb is too steep—residents will be given further guidance soon.  FOX 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids got a $12,500 grant from New York Life to strengthen its free grief support programs for adults and children. The grant will help the group offer in-person, virtual, and hybrid services at its clubhouses and community centers.  MLive
