- ➤ West Ottawa Public Schools hosted a computer science and STEM celebration in Holland that highlighted student achievements and career opportunities in digital and engineering fields — featuring robotics clubs and networking with local universities, nonprofits and health systems. FOX 17
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Forecasters issued a *G3* geomagnetic storm watch for tonight as a solar storm is expected to boost northern lights over northern states including Michigan. Residents can try dark areas from the lower Midwest to Oregon to catch the display, though clouds may hamper viewing. ABC 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michigan's minimum wage will increase from $12.48 to $13.73 per hour in 2026 following a decision by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, and wages for minors will rise from $10.60 to $11.67 per hour. Tipped employee rates will gradually climb to 100% by Feb. 21 starting in 2026 while the training wage remains unchanged. FOX 17
- ➤ Lowell Township officials rescheduled the public hearing on a proposed data center at Covenant Park after an overcrowded meeting on Dec. 8 forced a cancellation; the hearing will be held at Lowell High School Performing Arts Center (location to be confirmed) at a future date. MLive
