GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A settlement conference is set for today at 10:30 a.m. to review a proposal that may fund needed repairs at the historic Sligh Furniture building, which houses three antique shops. The building, under court receivership after a loan default, needs urgent repairs on its fire system and roof (estimated at $2M). MLive
- ➤ Kent County accepted a $400k state grant to upgrade Johnson Park in Walker as trailhead for the 85-mile Grand River Greenway; the $2.6 million redevelopment features a new all-seasons restroom, playground, shelter areas, and six miles of mountain bike trails, with construction starting spring and finishing by fall 2026. - ➤ MDOT says the ramp from WB I-196 to SB US-131 & the ramp from NB US-131 to EB I-196 are now open after a Dec. 2 crash when a semi carrying 14,000 lbs of pea gravel hit the structure and slightly injured its driver. A full repair will be completed by late April. FOX 17
