  • Grand Rapids will host free outdoor fitness classes every weekday this summer from May 12 through August with 16 different classes offered at public parks—held in partnership with Priority Health, Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc. and the City and available with no registration.  WOOD TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An apartment building on 11th Street NW near Davis Avenue NW in Grand Rapids suffered damage when a fire broke out around 2 a.m. Wednesday and firefighters quickly controlled the flames—Consumers Energy and DTE isolated one room to keep utilities running—and the building was checked and cleared.  WOOD TV

  • Jury selection will continue Wednesday in Christopher Schurr’s trial for the killing of Patrick Lyoya as both sides used many peremptory challenges so far – the second-degree murder trial is set to begin Monday.  WOOD TV
  • A man in his 20s received treatment for minor injuries after a Tuesday night fight turned into a stabbing at Fish Ladder Park—another man in his 20s was arrested, police said.  WOOD TV

  • New data shows Grand Rapids is ranked as the 27th worst U.S. city for ozone pollution — averaging more than nine unhealthy air days a year between 2020 and 2022 and earning an F for ozone levels. Wildfire smoke from Canada also caused the particle pollution grade to drop from a B to a D.  WOOD TV
