- ➤ Yesterday, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce broke ground on a new $11.6 million center (the Center for Latino Economic and Talent Advancement) at 1111 Godfrey Ave SW in Grand Rapids to meet its growing needs. The 12,000-square-foot facility will have a 200-person event space and is funded through a public-private partnership that includes $5 million from the state and $850,000 from the federal government, and it is expected to be finished by the end of February 2026. - ➤ Former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr (34) testified on day five of his trial for the April 2022 killing of Patrick Lyoya, saying he joined policing to help people while body camera and cellphone video documented the struggle that led to his firing and murder charge by Kent County Prosecutor. - ➤ The Grand Rapids Fire Department is accepting applications to hire between 14—20 new firefighters as new fire stations are built and the Fire Academy begins on Jan. 5 next year.
